This vertical (graduate and undergraduate) design studio introduces and/or advances skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to operate in the space between architecture, culture, and spirituality. In this occasion, we will study the deep ethical dimension of architecture by considering peacemaking and justice in the context of the challenges facing our society regarding racial, economic, and social inequities. Architectural design will be deployed as a progressive instrument to advance truth, reconciliation, mindfulness, and compassion. This inquiry will be done under a premise of cultural questioning, beauty, spiritual humility, and the insights and experience of master architect Trey Trahan -– the 2021 Walton Critic.
