This graduate design studio advances skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to operate in the space between architecture, culture and spirituality. In this occasion, we will investigate the relationship between contemporary practices and directions in religious and spiritual belief, changing notions of sacredness, and the importance of sustainability as reflected in the recently released Papal Encyclical Letter. This inquiry will be done under a premise of voluntary simplicity and the insights and experience of recognized architectural author, editor and critic Michael J. Crosbie — the 2015 Walton Critic. In conjunction with this program, we will have two Walton special guests: award winning architects Joan Soranno (HGA, Minneapolis MN) and Sudan Jones (atelierjones, Seattle WA).
